Curiosity Chest
Series: Curiosity
The Curiosity Chest references the classic curiosity cabinets of yore, but with an obsessive compulsive update involving 100 uniquely shaped spring-loaded drawers. Exhibited during Milan Design Week 2017, the piece is a limited series item, designed as a celebration of sensuality and fetish. It also carries with it two readings, the first involving a 2-dimensional understanding of the grid, a fluid contortion within a fixed frame. The second reading happens at an intimate distance where one is tempted to run their hand along the surface, feeling the seams between units as well as the unity of the resultant carved surface. A unity which is easily disrupted as one begins opening various compartments, pulling them out of continuity with those next to them.
