Landscapes of Play

Our proposal for the Volkertmarkt square (Vienna) focuses on two existing nodes of activity: the youth center and the farmer’s market. The intention of the design is to create a physical and conceptual link between these two zones that encourages a multi-generational attraction to and use of the space. From the side of the youth center it is read on formal and functional levels as a unified terrain for play for older children, whereas from the side of the market it is perceived as a striated mix of garden elements, seating, and play for younger children. Thus, the project as a whole forms a destination toward the center of the square which attracts a variety of: residents, visitors, age and user groups to congregate.
